About ExMat

Advancing optical diagnostics for a wide range of applications.

Extreme conditional optical diagnostics. Make measurements that were previously impossible with optical thermal sensors designed for the most extreme environments.

ExMat Research, Inc. is a spinout from Washington State University’s Applied Sciences Laboratory (ASL) in Spokane, WA. The ASL is a contract research organization focusing on solving problems for industry and government agencies using a multidisciplinary approach that encompasses the sciences and engineering.

The research work at ASL has been sponsored by various government agencies to develop optical diagnostics for extreme environments, examples include:

On-line thermal sensors

In many cases, on-line (real-time) temperature sensing is required in extreme and challenging situations. Examples include temperature of gas from traditional combustion and hypersonic engines, post-detonation environments, etc. Our two-color temperature sensors can be used in various configurations.
